Update from Inside Iran

On day where Americans celebrate their freedom and independence, it is good to remember those without the same blessings.

Through some different channels, I received the following information which comes from internal Iranian sources.

1. Arrests are now taking place on an unprecedented scale, often for no apparent or specified reason.

2. A report came out in Iran with election results widely believed to be trustworthy by many Iranians. According to these results, Ahmadinejad finished a distant third (of four candidates) in
the recent election. The report claims that Mousavi received 40% of the vote,
another candidate received 30%, while Ahmadinejad's vote total was only
15%. Sadly and not surprisingly, an interior ministry official who initially reported these results to Mousavi has since suffered a fatal "accident."

3. Many Iranians who previously supported the regime for religious reasons, have been disturbed by the perception that Ayatollah Khamenei is complicit in the perceived
election fraud and subsequent crackdown. More and more Iranians are growing disillusioned with Islam and open to spiritual alternatives.

4. Many Iranians are desperate to leave the country. More are hoping to flee than most people realize.

It's hard to know what to do with confusing situations unraveling on the other side of the world. But as Christians we can pray.

  • Pray for justice, that the legitimate winner of the election would be made clear and his authority recognized.
  • Pray for peace, that the lives of innocent Iranians would be spared.
  • Pray for freedom, that the Lord would break the teeth of the oppressors and deliver those who have been wrongly accused or imprisoned.
  • Pray for comfort, that the Spirit would help the weak, the fearful, the grieving.
  • Pray for the governments of the West, that they would have the wisdom to act prudently and the courage to speak the truth.
  • Pray for Christians in Iran, that they may bear witness to Christ in word and deed.
  • Pray for open doors to the gospel, that this crisis would lead to disillusionment with Islam and opportunity for the Christian message to be heard and believed.
