These comments and thoughts from a missionary reflect a similar attitude and the thoughts from Pete Grieg's book "God on Mute", where he makes the same point through story after story of people from around the world who live with daily suffering, while we in the western world (he from the UK, myself here in the US) experience comparatively little suffering and have a hard time fathoming the level of suffering most of the world is used to on a daily basis. This book was a good read, even though I don't agree with all of the conlcusions the author came to.
By the way, I loved your book, Kevin (and Ted) on the Emergent church - immensely helpful and practical. We used at our church here in Maine to facilitate a congregational Q&A on the subject. Thanks for writing it!
